When Boehm’s Church was founded in 1740, it was part of the Dutch Reformed tradition, but later joined the German Reformed Synod of Philadelphia. In 1957, as a part of the world ecumenical movement, the German Reformed churches joined with three other denominations—the German Evangelical, the Congregational and the Christian churches—to form the United Church of Christ, taking as their motto the verse from John 17:21: "That they may all be one."This was a bold and challenging endeavor by four traditions to join together, seeking to truly live out being one in body with Christ.
Therefore, as part of the UCC, we at Boehm’s Church challenge ourselves to respect and honor different traditions and thoughts regarding the church, while celebrating our common belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
The United Church of Christ is a church of freedom and responsibility. We are a church of the people, gathered for worship, work and witness. Our purpose is to be a people whodemonstrate their love for God by loving and serving others.
